This guide is designed to help you get gold fast so you can be well equipped when going into the dungeon and staying in the action.
Whether you’re just starting Dungeonborne, or you’re a seasoned veteran, this guide will have tips and tricks to help you on your journey.
TL:DR:
- Slot Value: Ensure that the items you’re bringing out give you over 500 gold per slot, instead of a 4 slot item selling for 1500 gold.
- Consumables and Heirlooms can be crafted to lessen the cost of your full kit when venturing into the dungeon. Upgrade the heirlooms to start off stronger.
- Quests grant lots of gold, and are refreshed daily and weekly, you may also get an additional quest after death
- Midas touch is a set affix that is extremely helpful for collecting gold allowing you to passively collect it while searching for loot and offers a large bonus when extracting.
- High level items can be found by killing elites in hardmode dungeons and killing bosses, and Uniques will only spawn from boss deaths. These are extremely high value items that if used, should always be protected by mithril dice, and fetch an extremely high price on the Auction house OR the Buyout market.
Section 1: Getting started
- Consumables can be an incredible tool at keeping yourself safe as well as creating distance between you and other players who may try to kill you for your loot. Stone Shaping and Incendiary flasks are good for stopping an enemy from progressing towards you while Smokescreen and Thunderclap flasks are excellent for slowing your enemy down enough for you to make a faster escape in dire circumstances. To use these reliably, you’ll need lots of them, you can craft these from the alchemist to save some gold, but he’ll require crafting materials to do so. The best place to farm these materials is Clouseau Castle due to its wide open spaces that allow you to more easily spot threats and take PVE combat at your own pace. This coupled with many small enemies that only drop 1 slot items (giving it a higher chance to drop materials) makes Clouseau castle the optimal choice for Material farming.
- Quests can grant LOTS of gold for seemingly simple tasks such as “escape 5 times”. These quests are usually able to be completed no matter your gear level, so it's often worth it to do a “Hatchling” run where you don't equip anything other than base gear, and launch into a dungeon in an attempt to complete these quests. Harder quests like “kill Khazra” will require stronger gear, so try and save those for last.
- Slot Value Is a concept to easily visualize an item's overall worth. It is used by dividing the item's value by the number of slots it consumes. For example: a gold crown that occupies 4 slots may have a total value of 1500 gold. That item's total slot value is 375.This is important to know because you will often find items that seem worth a lot, but their slot value is extremely poor. To dive a bit deeper into this, a Gold Crown is worth 1,500 gold and occupies 4 slots. A Ring of Will is worth 500 gold on the Buyout marketplace. Dropping the 1,500 gold crown for the Ring of Will may be optimal if you can fill the other slots with similar items, as the gold crown's slot value is 375, while the Ring of Will slot value is 500.
- The Buyout Market is going to be a primary source of income. Seeing as the merchant offers a poor price for basic uncommon level equipment, you can turn to the market where other players will offer between 700 - 2k gold for an item depending on what it is. It's important to understand market trends for certain items so that you can easily calculate slot values while in the dungeon. But that's not the only way to earn gold in the marketplace, if you spot an item that is being sold for far less than its worth, you can purchase that item and attempt to resell it at a higher price, keep in mind users can only buy the lowest value of a certain item, so it may take longer for the item to sell, but you’ll generally be making around 10% of the items worth in gold per resell, which is a good passive way to earn gold while waiting for your friends.
Section 2: Advanced Tactics
- Midas Touch is a set affix that was designed specifically for gold farming in mind. This allows you to passively gain gold when killing enemies and looting chests. You don't need many points for the affix to take effect, and you can pair this with a rogue with the hidden pockets perk to stash your gold coins inside the hidden pockets so even if you die, you’re automatically getting gold directly deposited into your bank, be sure to keep in mind Slot values, you’ll want to keep the item with the highest slot value in your hidden pocket.
- Heirlooms are a fantastic way to enhance your Hatchling runs, allowing you to bring in strong gear as your basekit, you can equip three heirlooms at a time, making up a very good portion of your starting equipment. Since you’ve reached this point in the guide, we’re going to assume your bank value is high enough to sustain your needs. At this point it's a good idea to begin collecting uncommon and rare gear to upgrade your heirlooms to increase their effectiveness.
- The Auction House Market is different from the buyout market in that it allows you to sell items with what we call “high value affixes''. High value affixes include all set affixes, but also special affixes such as: life regen on kill, damage returned on successful block etc. these special affixes will fetch much higher prices in the Auction house market where specific users requiring those affixes for their build will pay a premium instead of endlessly rerolling their gear. Just like the Buyout market, it's important to keep up with the market valuations of certain affixes to further optimize slot value.
- Hard Mode Dungeons will allow you to find higher quality gear such as epic and even legendary equipment. This comes with the increased risk of death in these dungeons as other players will not only be looking for said gear themselves, but they’ll be far more aggressive in terms of chasing other teams for their equipment. Though the reward for extracting with even a single piece of epic gear could grant you tens of thousands of gold. High risk, High reward.
Section 3: Becoming a whale
- Bosses Such as the Wendigo or the Cyclops can drop legendary equipment. Developing an efficient strategy to kill these bosses and search their treasure rooms will be an asset in locating legendary gear, where epic gear could net you 10,000+ gold, Legendaries can net you 100,000+ gold, making Boss runs a very efficient strategy for gold farming.
- Epic Heirlooms Are going to make you much stronger, turning even hatchlings into formidable opponents. Once you upgrade your Heirloom to epic, it's recommended to make an “heirloom build” by coordinating the affixes on your three heirloom pieces. This will allow for even stronger and more frequent builds as you will be using heirlooms in place of equipment, allowing you to save a lot of gold.
- Mithril Dice are an item that you’ve likely come across by now, it's recommended to use these mithril dice, and then equip the highest tier of gear in those slots. Often players will re-roll their mithril dice in an attempt to have it roll on a slot that they own a legendary for, this is the recommended method for equipping legendaries, as it removes the possibility of losing a 100,000+ gold item on a standard run.
You should now have the knowledge to farm gold safely and effectively, giving you greater allowance for purchasing items in the marketplaces and from vendors.
Good luck , and remember:
